How to FIRE when you are from Latin America?

I'm from Turkey.

Average salary in Turkey is $400 per month. No thanks to devaluation.

My liquid investments can theoretically can generate $500 per month until I am dead.

My non liquid investment don't produce income. This is tied to Turkish economy. I don't want to sell this because my home is Turkey in worst case scenario. If the local currency regains its value back to what it was 10 years ago, average salary would be $2000 per month. In this case, my liquid investments wouldn't be enough for me obviously but my non liquid investment can gain enough value to pay for my life expenses. If this happens, I can comfortably live in most countries in the world. I can't say anything for sure though.

Honestly Turkish people are pretty shitty to each other. Negative, judgmental, hateful, ignorant, deceitful, resentful and dishonest. Obviously with exceptions but why deal with that crap? It has been getting worse in the past 15 years. So I want to find a better home to myself if I can.

A while ago I was questioning if I can afford to retire. I decided I can't. Not as a citizen of Turkey. Also not in the era we are in, considering financial problems, lack of birth rates, evolution of tech, possibility of war and disappearance of cost of living arbitrage. I need to have enough money to be able to live in most countries in the world. Not sure how I'll get there but that's my goal. A round $1M.

Also what $500/mo gets you in Turkey is a little above poverty line. Most people in Turkey are in poverty and just because something is common in society doesn't mean its okay. Being an average earner sucks unless you live in richest top 20 countries.

Anyway my personal tips are

  1. Never invest in your own country unless you have family connections in the government but then you wouldn't be here needing money advice.

  2. If you can, travel and experiment, before making big decisions to settle down somewhere. Life in rich countries isn't heaven. They have their problems.

  3. If you can, use internet to work.
