How good does a golfer have to be before you start listening to their advice?

I come from a baseball background and I tend to notice that the best coaches were seldom the best players. David Ross always comes to mind. Career .229 hitter and when he retired, everyone knew he was going to manage or coach somewhere.

For example, if you were to ask someone with loads of natural talent how to hit for power, they’d probably struggle since it’s not something they’ve every really thought about. Now if you were to ask someone who had to grind and grind the same question, they’re probably going to be more nuanced in their feedback because they’ve had to break it down into digestible pieces.

In short, if I mishit and ask one of my hacker buddies who is putting in the work and improving, “Was my alignment off?”, I’ll probably listen to what they have to say because it’s something they’re conscious of. It’s good immediate feedback I can take into account until I have time to talk to my coach, try a drill, etc.
