How good is Vicious Mockery compared to a "real" attacking cantrip?
I wouldn't delay getting to 5 by multiclassing before that, 5 is an important powerspike and what you'll gain from bard won't offset what you'll get from sorc 5
If you're 100% on support, then who cares what damage you do, pick spells and combinations that support
Giving disadvantage is the main reason to take it, you could either combine it as an action with a healing word bonus, or quicken it as a sorcerer and do it in combination with other spells for a good round of support actions
It's best used against something big that's going to hit hard, chuck it at an Ogre in combination with something like shield of faith, and you likely stop it taking a big chunk out of an ally
