I'll go against the prevailing wisdom. I make many things on site.

Concrete and the basic iron products are so easy to make.

Find a new build spot, run power.

Plop down a limestone miner, constructor, and storage container. Boom, all the concrete you will need, let it slowly accumulate while you build.

Same for iron. One miner, an array of 2-3 constructors, a storage container. Make plates, rods, screws, iron wire, cable, whatever.

If your using a lot of pipe, find a nearby copper node and do the same.

Use the shopping list feature to plan your other buildings and take the more complicated items with you. HMFs, RCUs, rotors and stators, etc. Always keep alclad sheets handy.

This seems to work well enough without trying to pipe everything to a central mall, which may be far from where you're building anyway.
