How do I help my son?

All addiction is about trying to deal with pain, discomfort, or not knowing how to deal with unpleasant emotions. You have to figure out what the underlying driver is. Most people who are addicts have never experienced a safe relationship despite u being a loving concerned parent. You may have not taught him emotional health and it’s very common. Not an insult because parents often themselves might struggle with emotional unhealth. We are taught to suppress emotions instead of being authentic and being understood. Guys especially tend to suppress their feelings and emotions. He’s probably isolating too and that is terrible for addiction not having regular meaningful interactions everyday. With Covid this is even more challenging bc of the making people isolate and stuff. If it is his job that is causing added stress sometimes a job can make people increase their substance use. Maybe he’s not really happy there but he’s using the alcohol to cope.
