How high is demand for the HTC Vive?

Hard to say. Gear VR sold out very quickly, but Samsung marketed it well. HTC has been so quiet, my impression is that barely anybody knows about it. They've been so uncommunicative and are cutting it so close to 2016 that personally, even though I've been a heavy Vive promoter in the past...I'm not going even going to try to buy one when they first come out.

Why bother? Vive was suposed to be frist to market with a several month headstart. Now, even if the 20915 release does happen it's only going to beat Rift by a month or two. And if the limited 2015 release is genuinely limited and few people are actually able to buy one, that means that most of us might be stuck buying a headset in 2016.

So if we're stuck waiting until 2016 anyway, what possible reason is there to not wait and see what Oculus does? Would anyone be very surprised if Vive is $200 more expensive on initial release, but then as soon as the Rift is released, Vive drops in price by $100?

When Vive was going to be available for months before Rift, yeah, it made sense to pay more to have the Vive right away. But now? If the earliest i can realistically buy Vive is middle January, I have no problem waiting the extra week or tqo for Rift to come out so I can compare both and choose between them. And honestly, the way they've been staying silent and keeping us completely in the dark...I'm kind of annoyed with them.

They've thrown away a huge advantage and they've alienated some of their supporters.

At this point I'm probably not going to buy either Vive or Rift until I can walk into a store and compare them both.

I'm also talking about people not on this reddit, to clear up confusion.

Oh. Well, among my social circle nobody has even heard of Vive apart from my talking to them about it. I know one guy who says he's definitely going to "buy them all" and he specifically mentioned Vive, Rift and buying a PS4 so he could get morpheus too. His reason being, exclusives. He's going to want to play everything, and he's willing to buy every piece of hardware to do thatr. It's just a question of which he buys first. And I know one guy who, strangely, is leaning towards waiting for Hololens. I don't fully understand why, but AR seems to interest him a lot more than VR.

Other than those two, I don't know anyone who has formed strong preferences yet. Though I do know a couple people who've tried our GearVR and said that it was painful to wear even for the 5 minute demo and that they probably wouldn't want to wear it for much longer than that.
