I work in the club industry and probably take 1 night out of every week or two to just enjoy the bar or the club and have fun. I don't hit the club with expectations. My goal is simply to get drunk, enjoy the music, dance with a few people, and have a good time. A good chunk of the time I end up leaving with a girl. Granted, I live in Vegas so I don't know how it compares to other places. But I can say with 100% certainty that I've failed to get laid every single time I've gone in with the mindset of "I have to get laid". If you're more concerned with sex than simply letting loose and having fun, women will sense it a mile away and you will get passed on in favor of a guy who is more relaxed and laid back about it. I will say from my experience that how you look and dress plays a major factor in both the bar or the club, but it's more important at the club. A bar has a chiller environment and it's easier to make conversation, so your personality can compensate for things you lack in the looks department. The club, it's often too loud to talk much so the attraction there is much more physical.
