How to know if something is God’s plan or if I just made it up in my head?

Thank you so much for your response! This is actually exactly what I needed to hear not only having to do with this situation, but other situations in my life. I guess I forgot that humans have free will too and bad stuff is not because of God.

I just have a few more questions if you don’t mind me asking! I’m just really confused, so if there’s no way to know what God’s will is, does God’s will happen whether we pray for it or not?

Because if it happens when we pray for it or not, then why do we pray for it?

Also I think I’m just questioning my faith right now. I never used to have thoughts like this, but I think just with the quarintine and having too much time to think I’ve just been questioning my faith. If stuff like this is never known how can we know that God is there? Like I just feel like for whichever scenario could have happened in this case or in any case, we could justify it in different ways. For example, it worked out, it was God’s plan. It didn’t work out, it was free will. It worked out later, God wanted us to learn something from this first. Like I just feel like whatever happens we are just making an excuse for what happened and justifying it ourselves, but how do I know God is actually doing this stuff and everything just isn’t by chance?
