Outsiders think this profession is whitewashed, and honestly, it kinda is.

This is not the reason we don't go into accounting. The field is definitely white-washed, but that's a given since this country was overwhelmingly white until recently, especially when it came to higher education. The reality is not only do we not have the same foundation in higher education that whites who have been here forever have, we also do put the same value on career/money that whites do. My culture defines a man by how he treats, protects, and takes care of his family, not how big his paycheck is which seems to be a pretty huge thing to a lot of Caucasians. In some other minority cultures they look down on education, so it's 0 surprise they have a much smaller pool to send people to college, let alone a profession like accounting.
