How important is full coverage?

Let me give you advice that nobody gave me when I first started looking for insurance. Take a look at the policy itself.

First, you’re on a motorcycle so I’d recommend setting your liability limits as low as they’ll go as you’re more likely to be hit than to hit someone else. Plus, the damage you do will likely be a lot less since you’re on a bike. That should drop your total considerably.

Second, if you have health insurance then take off all the stuff regarding medical payments and additional medical insurance.

Third, decide how much you’re willing to spend out of pocket for a comparable bike if you total that one. Keep in mind that you can buy the totaled bike back from insurance and part it out for some extra $ if there’s parts to be salvaged off of it. That will reduce your payout but not very much.

Fourth, remove the carried contents part or drop it to zero. The odds of you carrying anything of significant value on a gixxer 600 are very slim. Note that this is NOT accessories. This is anything you lock in that little storage area on the bike.

Lastly, make those deductible limits for both collision and comprehensive as high as you’re comfortable with.

I did this on a quote for a 2006 cbr600rr when I got an initial quote of $3000 and it dropped it down to $1200.
