How to improve your Reckoning runs by 200% with one simple tip.

The “why should I use x when y is better?” Question that folks here come back to often is eternally frustrating and ignores the concept that things can be good without being godlike or broken. As someone who plays other games that also have metas, this boggles my mind. That said, the “why” in this case is because (imo) it’s boring using recluse and swarm in every activity when other things work. Those other things just aren’t busted.

This is more of a meta discussion, literally and figuratively. The actual problem in my eyes lies in the fact that this game is extremely weirdly balanced, where the best option to use is often times the easiest, so you won’t even consider that other choices are gonna be good. That sucks. Some other games are balanced similarly, but in those cases it’s often times more nebulous and varies from player to player(see DBFZ). Hell, monster hunter world is a great example of how a game should be balanced imo (I’ve been extremely not in the scene lately, gonna come back soon for iceborne after I finish BL3 though! So apologies if this is off base). I used the insect glaive for like 200ish hours before switching off it because it was easy as hell, relatively effective, and looked cool but the fights were boring and slow as hell too. I uses a great sword after that most of the time because it kills things in half the time, but I also died a lot more. That is a trade off that’s actually cool, and has pros and cons. If it was balanced like destiny, the only trade off you’re making is “worse, but less boring”. Every hit of an insect glaive would do the same damage as a fully charged great sword swing. So the “Monster Hunter: Destiny” great sword is still good in my eyes, since the damage and “fun factor” is there, even if the existence of the insect glaive makes me scratch my head about even using the GS.

If someone shows up to your reckoning team running double scouts with a crooked fang, by all means call them a degenerate. However, calling someone a degenerate for using the best total damage weapons in the game is essentially a disagreement on your and their philosophy of how to fight the boss, whether it’s the fastest way possible, or the slower and more “dangerous” way. Both strats work just fine, and are both valid in 99% of content. It’s just fuckin lame that the balance of the game even has situations where you can be viewed as “gimping” yourself by using a different, effective-in-a-different-way option.
