How is it legal to homeschool children?

This is a good and often legitimate question. But sometimes it's based on a negative stereotype that homeschoolers in general can't or don't teach their kids well. Problem with that is there's really no data to support it. Homeschooled kids on the whole have better academic outcomes than public schooled kids. Yes, some homeschool parents are doing a shitty job and their kids miss out. Unfortunately, for all the system and bureaucracy of public schools, there are many kids slipping through the cracks of that system (hell there are enite schools and entire districts significantly underperforming).

On the whole, a student having a ton of adult attention and support is going to do fine. A ton of what professional teachers learn and spend their time on is actually classroom management. Keeping 20+ organized, engaged, and coordinated on a learning journey on a very rigid daily schedule is a ton of work.
