How liberal is Birmingham?

It really depends on what kind of liberal we're talking about here-

If you're looking for people who still think Bernie Sanders can win the nomination, yes, there are still some of them around here but they will be a lot harder to find after June 7th. It's OK though, because after that there's always fringe candidate Gary Johnson to accept desperate and delusional people's money.

If you're looking for people who are accepting of gays and blacks, most of the cities neighborhoods and suburbs fit the bill, though some of the northern suburbs may be less accepting of either, but for the most part it's current year and everybody is with the program.

If you're looking for the eat fight the pastryarchy types, I've seen enough 20-year old UAB students who look like 45 year old women who never once took care of themselves that there has to be a scene for that here. I would recommend checking in the Southside neighborhood by the university, or the organic/vegan/gluten free aisles at our local Whole Foods.

Speaking of vegan, if you're looking for the animal rights activist type of liberals, well this is barbecue country so they are hard to find. Perhaps treat yourself to an extremely unappetizing lunch at Golden Temple and strike up conversation with another patron about the cruelty of chicken wings and you may meet some like-minded people.

If you're looking for people who enjoy discussing microaggressions and the thrill of fighting oppressive power structures, inquire at any of our local universities' genderfluid studies departments and they should be able to direct you to the appropriate tumblr blog.

And of course, if you mean liberal as in believing in liberty and equality for all your countrymen (and don't think I should correct this to say all your countrypersons), then you should be fine picking whatever neighborhood matches your budget and other needs, and looks nice to you, and there's no need for a virtue-signaling post on reddit about it.
