How long did it take for your first DFS win?

Been playing for 10 years going back to DraftStreet days. Won $500-$1500 off of a single entry here and there but my first 'big' hit came in 2016 when I won $10k in a $4 NBA GPP. So, five years to snag a five figure payout. I also made it to the 100-man DK NFL Best Ball Milly Maker final this past year and was in first place winning $1 mil for a while but ultimately settled for 5th place ($20k). Boy, that was a stressful Christmas weekend. The best part about that was I wasn't even planning on doing any best ball leagues on DraftKings but they threw a lot of people a free $20 entry last year, myself included, and I just got fortunate by drafting a stupid good team that stayed relatively healthy all year (also got James Robinson in like the 21st round or something like that).

For obvious reasons, you definitely have a better chance shipping smaller field GPPs, specifically single entry or three-entry max -- assuming you're a more casual DFS player and not generating 150 lineups and putting in hundreds or thousands of dollars into a slate each day. But, if it's within your means to do so, I'd say always throw at least one single bullet into those <$10 GPPs where you have potential to take down a five figure payout. Is it likely? No. But I wouldn't have hit that initial $10k if I didn't throw a lineup in that 20k-man NBA GPP (which was actually just my cash lineup -- ALWAYS throw your cash lineup into some kind of GPP).

I personally play NBA, NFL, MLB, and PGA DFS with the occasional stab at MMA. If I don't have at least 45 minutes to an hour to sit down and do some research, I don't play. Going in blind or only reading recommended plays from touts and subscription services at the last minute is an easy way to build suboptimal lineups. It's all about getting to a process you feel good with and sticking to it. You've been playing for 6-7 years, so maybe you do have a process, ya just haven't hit yet. I'm not sure what other sports you play, but I'd look to expand beyond NBA playoff DFS if possible.
