How long does it typically take to go from using dumbbells to the bar?

I’m 130 lbs and when I first started training years ago, I was using the bar within the first month. It seems like something is off with your training.

Do you have form down? Can you feel your muscles activating? Are you doing progressive overload?

It sounds like either a muscle activation/form problem or could be lack of progressive overload. If you think it’s the former, try higher rep workouts (with heavy emphasis on perfect form and feeling for muscle activation). I’d also add in some sets with lower reps, heavier weights. So 4-6 reps at a higher weight than you’d usually do. It WILL feel heavy - that is the point.

Also make sure you’re warming up with activation exercises - especially for glutes. I like to do 2 activation exercises before each workout with 40 reps each (20 on each side).

Finally, don’t be afraid if it’s heavy. Some exercises for me always feel heavier on the first set, squats in particular.
