How lucky are we?

Why are you asking a novel length question about something you’ve clearly done the research into already? If you want more information confirming to this self-evident question, just read or listen to Steven Pinker. He’s somehow made a career out of reminding people that like, polio is cured, and we don’t have to personally grow turnips in order to have a meal.

However, if you are interested in the antidote to this line of reasoning (it usually carries with it a thinly veiled implication that drastic political change isn’t necessary, or that poverty has somehow magically vanished from the world), then I would recommend the writing & lectures if someone like Slavonic Zizek. If that’s too much effort, then I recommend this succinct “rebuttal” from Jacobin magazine: https://www.jacobinmag.com/2019/02/steven-pinker-global-poverty-neoliberalism-progress
