How many of you have toxic friends and how did you find out about it?

I had one but I ended up ghosting her and walked away from the friendship of about 10 years. It took her many months before realising. Our friendship was quite normal in the beginning.

She did this sort of thing:

• I wasn’t allowed to be friends with her friends. She used those exact words when I started to become more friendly with two different people.

• I was never invited to things where there would be single men, only to the core group where I was the only single.

• She would usually get in touch to catch up when everyone else was busy.

• She started an MLM business and wasn’t impressed with me because I wouldn’t buy the overpriced products for me or as gifts for my family. It made my skin burn when I tried it.

• I don’t like kids, I don’t have the patience, and it’s well known in our circle. We agreed to catch up for lunch but she turned up 45 minutes, not hungry because she’d just had lunch, and she had her best friend’s 18 month old son with her because her friend needed a break. We skipped food and then followed the kid around the shopping centre while she filmed him and told me how smart he was.

We’d been pretty good friends and she helped me through a really rough period in my life so it was hard to walk away but I now have a much better social life, I’m out all the time, and I’m happier.
