How to move OS from HDD to SSD?

You have to either have an external to do a backup to, or an SATAtoUSB adapter to mount the SSD via USB to.

My preferred way is to use Macrium Reflect. Download it, install it and create recovery media. Do a complete OS backup to an external USB drive. Then I swap the HDD for the SSD and boot to the Macrium recovery media, then restore the image to the SSD.

Alternately, get the SATAtoUSB adapter and mount the SSD to it. Use Macrium to clone the drive one to another.

So, you either need to see both drives at once using the adapter - OR - do a backup then restore to an external drive.

You can always reinstall Windows from scratch. This is amazingly fast any more. However, if you have a ton of stuff on the OS then you have to set it all back up again. If you have some weird hardware you need to download the drivers. To do this Google Windows Media Tool, download it, install it and create a Windows installation USB drive. Boot to it and install Windows. Be sure you boot from the install media the same way the PC is setup to boot from currently, MBR or EFI, else you have to change the boot type in the BIOS.
