Don't be so sure the thrusters won't work.
There have even been some studies done on the effectiveness of cold gas thrusters on motorcycles and cars as a safety measure to help with loss of traction and accident moments.
It's not that dangerous, and it's not difficult to make. It's literally just a compressor, a beefy ass air tank, and the right shaped nozzle. High schoolers could design a cold gas thrusters system, so I think a closely related space company that makes them quite a lot could help them throw something together.
I doubt they'll be used like a thruster though, more like an active downforce system that only needs to last long enough until passive downforce can take over and keep the damn tires firmly planted.
