How Much House Would You Buy?

Anecdotally... I am single and bought a ~2500sqft house last year and I don't even want kids so there's no future family in mind. 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths. I've got a master bedroom, a dedicated office that I love (I work from home), a workout room, and a hobby room. I also have a family room (main dining area?) that is currently unused but I plan to build a small indoor climbing wall. I'm planning to switch my bedroom with the hobby room since the bedroom is huge and I really only have a bed and dresser in there.

It's nice to have space and room for everything but I do slightly regret buying such a big house. Options were slim when I was looking so the regret is minimal at least.. It's so much cleaning.. When I'm a little more comfortable having people over at my house (cos covid), I will be hiring a cleaner to help with deep cleanings. Everything is more expensive to repair/replace. Furnace, water heater, roof, etc..

I like my house but if I could go back, a house closer to the 1800-2000sqft range would've been better for me. If you can find ways to utilize most of the space, it'd be worth it, but given that you're currently single, I wouldn't buy a house with a future family in mind.
