How much do you need to move out to your very 1st apartment? And other costs to be aware of?

Way too many posts criticizing the rent amount. It definitely seems like a lot but its certainly not if he lives like within 2 hours of san jose or on long island or something lol. Simply put OP - make sure 2K/month is reasonable for your area. You dont need more than 2 bedroom if its just you and a friend. In most areas 1500/month should get you a reasonable 2 bedroom.

i'm gonna go ahead and assume it IS reasonable just for the sake of giving you actual advice.

If you're already budgeting on both first and last months rent up front than you should be good. There is a chance you will ALSO owe a refundable security deposit on top of that (usually half the rent or the full rent), but if you're paying 2 months rent up front its usually included in that.

Outside of that you should mostly be good. If you need movers they can be shockingly expensive. You're young so rent a UHaul van at the worst, its not too expensive.

If either of you have pets there is usually a small additional pet deposit.

You dont need any up front money for utilities. That said, set up cable ASAP because that is a huge pain in the butt to get situated and if you dont dedicate time to it you cold easily go 2+ weeks with no internet.

The only other thing That you need to FOR SURE Double check is parking. Some 2 bedrooms come with only 1 parking space free. I always thought that was stupid. If its a major city you might not get any free parking.
