How much snake oil are we willing to swallow as effects junkies?

Is that snake oil though?

For instance I have a 1981 rat that I got for a steal that is worth maybe $700. I also have a eno rat that was $25 and they sound idential on every single setting.

Owning them isn't buying into snake oil but thinking the vintage rat sounds better because it's the vintage rat would be.

I own a ton of gear but I have no rose colored glasses about the older stuff or vintage stuff. I just judge everything on it's own.

I think that is really the only important thing. Don't trick yourself into thinking things are better just because they are "cool".

Having said that the article isn't really about how it won't make you a better guitarist. It literally compares stuff like throughwhole and point to point etc. It's a more technical rundown of some common "snake oil" in the industry.

Not trying to argue or disagree, just thinking out loud.
