How is my ADHD anything but a handicap? I’ve always been told there are upsides but never had them specified or understood them.

I am not ashamed that my CNS is not compatible with the capitalistic perspectives of productivity and success. I prioritize (good and effective) systems over habits, always. I prefer to take my time to build good systems than waste my time with self-hate and grieve of the time lost, time that I have wasted by not doing the things I was suppose to do or doing the things that was expected from me. If you can feed and dress yourself, without harming others, than you’re a better person (and better of) than most people. Just start there: dress and feed yourself, be kind and helpful to others. What worked for me as well, both emotionally and structurally, was getting my cat. A pet will make you feel more obligated to follow a schedule other than your own. Set small systems and build on that, not day by day, but a week at the time, slowly. . . And if you get distracted, set a timer, and let yourself follow the dopamine. Go for a walk (or crack open a window) and get out of your head and out of this mental state of self pity and self hate, it’s not going to get you anywhere. We, with AD(H)D are the creatives, the rationalist, the brilliant, the problemsolvers, conceptual thinkers, the ones that THRIVE in crisis. Don’t you dare talk about me like that!
