how do I get my mom to call me by the right pronouns?

It hurts when people who are important to us act in ways that disrespect who we are. However, it's one thing for her to have her own issues with your transition, and another for her to act with intent to devalue you personally.

There will always be people who have trouble accepting us as who we are, many of them for religious reasons. As much as it may hurt, I don't think it's ever fair to expect more from people than they are capable of giving. It takes some parents years to come around; they have to struggle with the conflict between their religious convictions and their love for their child.

And you, of tender years, Can't know the fears that your elders grew by, And so please help them with your youth, They seek the truth before they can die.

Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.
