I’m sorry you’ve had that! This thread is making me realize how varied it is even within the south. I’ve had a couple dudes get flustered and insist I go first anyway, but not in a rude or angered way. I’ll especially try to say ‘I learned it was a polite thing everyone should do’ when those situations happen, but I’ll let them have it if they continue to insist. They largely just thank me and move on with their day tho.

Can’t imagine the type of person who gets pissed about someone being fucking kind. Like would dude rather you shut the door on his coffee hand instead? Or have to put down all his boxes and awkwardly maneuver for the door like a dumb fuck instead of simply being assisted so you don’t have to do that awkward door waddle that’s clearly the more embarrassing thing
