My role is now in between girlfriend and friends with benefits.. we never spoke about a future together before and he rarely tells me about his family (wife and kids). It keeps me in a bubble and I realise he is a master at compartmentalisation. I felt the loneliness and the lows before when he treated me with extra care and attention like a girlfriend but only occasionally when he could. Thats when I felt the extreme highs and extreme lows. Now it’s less extreme as sometimes I feel like a FWB. I have yet to feel extremely unhappy about it, most days nowadays I’m just feeling content, probably because I’m not sure where this is going either. I hope one day I’ll be able to walk away though if he serves no more happiness in my life; or that my feelings would completely fade to just friendship towards him.
