How often should you change jobs to maximize salary?

I haven't commented (until now, I guess) because I recognize I'm a bit out of step with most people, and OP asked specifically about making more money and not how to be happy/satisfied. For that, I would say job-hopping every 2 years might not be best. I've switched professional jobs once in my 25 years, and I know I'll retire with my current job. I'm making near the top of my pay band, and I have a great relationship with leadership, allowing me to choose my projects.

But yeah, I don't think there will be many people working for 30 years from now on, and that's mostly a good thing -- pensions and other benefits can lock people into jobs that aren't best suited for them. But there are some people who work 20+ years at one place and love it.
