Yeah.. there was this 13 year old Japanese girl at a four-family getaway when I started telling a story how I had to tell my son, 8 years ago, to keep quiet and NOT tell at school that Santa does not exit (we are foreigners ourselves, so we skipped Santa in my family). The mom of the girl tells me, deflated, that her daughter, who was sitting at the table, still believes in Santa, implying that I have just ruined something.

The girl just looked at her mom & said ‘it’s OK mom. I knew. I am old enough’. It was certainly surprising if not awkward.

Yeah, maybe not today, but you should let let children enter their teen years without handicaps.
