How do people in the UK survive on low/minimum wage?

£10 an hour would be a dream that is around £18k a year.I am a single parent and last year we made £5600 a year. No car,no holidays, nothing new ever, clothes from the charity shop but only in utter emergencies. Rarely warm in winter, hot water strictly rationed.Food is bought at night when stuff is reduced to 9p.Most months there is a day or two without electric as the meter runs out.No birthday or christmas presents no luxuries. If anything brakes it is a major issue .Our biggest luxury is the internet connection (no TV package or anything just the internet) .I live in constant fear of the TV liscence people as though I can't actually recieve any television they can still prosecute.I would buy one if I could but there simply is no money. We have a rescue dog,I love him to bits but he's mostly my sons ,those two are like brothers.I am contemplating rehoming him as we can't afford to vaccinate him and he needs neutering.I don't know how to brake it to him.My son is in his first year of college he commutes 2 hours each way to get there,it is exhausting. We could go to the food bank but Ill be damned before doing that, pride is the only thing we have left, the day we go to the food bank is the day we have given up......not yet.
