How to pretend to be of a particular class?

There are still certain family names that hold a lot of cachet in American society like the Vanderbilts, the DuPonts, or the Kennedys. These days, the "old money" club is never going to be overtly rude about their (or your) status. Rather, it's more often the nouveau riche that's apt to be snobbish.

There's an interesting documentary on Christian Gerhartsreiter, aka "Clark Rockefeller", called My Friend Rockefeller. It explores how he — a German national of rather humble origins — was able to pass himself off as a member of the upper echelon of American society. He fooled a lot of people.
