How is Raven's 2 a better test than the 1980 SAT?

You didn't understand what the guy said.

Matrix reasoning samples one domain of intelligence. It is comprehensive in that specific domain which is perceptual reasoning:

"The Raven's 2 is a nonverbal assessment of general cognitive ability, including the ability to formulate new concepts when faced with novel information, extract meaning out of confusion or ambiguity, and think clearly about complex situations and events. Contemporary cognitive assessment theory suggests that solving progressive matrices involves cognitive functions such as perception and attention to visual detail, inductive reasoning, classification and spatial ability, simultaneous processing, fluid intelligence, broad visual intelligence, and working memory."

With no practice effect it's an amazing measure of g and perceptual reasoning.

The reason a battery of any type of test is valuable and highly g loaded is because it samples multiple domains that are g loaded within the test construct.

There are many different ways to measure g comprehensively. For example the old SAT measures a strong crystalized component first and then if you have the base level crystalized component that matches your general ability level it is an amazing measure of g within the construct measure of the test.

THINKfast would be a horrible test of ability if it was only one reaction time test, but if you string together a bunch of complex reaction time tasks that are highly g loaded the measure ends up being a near perfect measure of g within the construct measure.

You'll notice that these tests are highly different from each other and you'll notice even if they're highly g loaded they might end up discriminating or underestimating the intelligence of some for example THINKfast might be a horrible test for people with dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, processing speed issues or working memory issues despite being a good measure of g.

The SAT might be a bad measure even the old one if you don't understand basic words or how crystalized intelligence tests function despite being a near perfect measure of g.

WAIS is overall balanced samples all cognitive domains. It's probably the most culture fair or fair test available lol be discriminate or underestimate the intelligence of some as well.

Hope this makes sense. While matrix reasoning is highly g loaded, sampling one specific cognitive domain isn't always enough (especially when people are deliberately practicing on raven's matrices). There's a lot that goes into matrix reasoning that no one seems to understand and in that sense it is g loaded, but those narrow abilities are g loaded within the construct measure to make a test a good measure of g it must have multiple tests sampling different areas to get a picture of overall intelligence.

It could be a type of measure like cognitive proficiency but it has to sample multiple domains using cognitive proficiency tests to be a good measure of g. The subtests themselves should be able to differentiate between people in terms of g.

Even the pro tests aren't perfect for everyone but they are good for most people.
