How come Reddit is so popular, but no one you ask uses it or has even heard of it?

I think a lot of people who use social media don't want to be anonymous and learn about other things and people. They want to be known and loudly share their thought, pictures, lives, etc.

Redditors seem to really like being anonymous. For different reasons. There are some bad apples but also some of the kindest and most generous people I've met. It's a place to find people with similar interests or some who find it a place they can share something so deeply important to them that they feel they can't say it anywhere else in the world.

I think most people are either too busy to deal with looking at everything on social media or Reddit, or they just want the personal connection with people they know to the point It's a large part of their social life.

My BIL barely speaks to people. He's very serious and doesn't seek relationships. Very academically focused. I know he uses Reddit. I highly doubt he comments on more than a sub of a very specific interest, if at all. I think he just likes knowing, learning, and seeing what's going on without having to talk to people. I like using it to learn about many things, meet new people, actually say something. I'm nearly mute in person. I can find our more about certain subjects I enjoy. I've learned A LOT on Reddit and I barely use Facebook anymore. I mainly use it for family news.
