How religious is the US?

Compared to many European countries, we are. That being said, how we integrate that into our daily lives and political dialogue varies greatly. There are people who use religion purely as a narrative and something that looks good - "I'd like to thank God for this award" - and never practice. There are the crazies in the Bible Belt that use it to inform everything to the point of excluding all compassion and nuance. Very black and white. Then there are the majority of religious people who go to church, engage in their community, and are otherwise great people.

While religiosity can cause problems, swinging wildly the other way a la France is just as harmful.
