Before there was a Sarasota Crew(mid 90s), SSYRP did have a 1-2 foreign exchange students that were rowers in their home country. I assume they prob have 1-2 today as well, but that's more because in an area as wealthy as Sarasota more families are going to be participating in exchange programs. I'm not sure of the politics that created Sarasota Crew but it seems like they are just as well funded as we were in the 90s. That translates to new gear (back in the 90s we were the first HS in FL to row with hatchet blades), great coaches, good fitness training programs. There's a reason that college programs with wealthy booster groups typically do well at the collegiate level. Also it looks like they have a massive team which means you have lots of competition in the team for slots in the A boat, you're going to train a lot harder if the guy who's seat you want is right there at practice every day on an ERG instead of just competing to win against boats you only see once every few weeks.
