How should married couples (with baby on the way) manage their finances?

I end up suggesting this equation a lot because it truly works like a charm: open a joint “baby” (or “household”) account, and you each put 40% of your monthly salary into that account to cover all shared or kid-related expenses. You may have to tinker with the percentages a little to ensure all monthly expenses are covered, or to add an additional amount to savings. The point is, tho, that your husband is absolutely wrong, and it strikes me as worrisome that he wants full access to your entire paycheck. Providing for the baby is of course the top priority, but you work hard and should therefore be the only one to determine how your salary is allocated.
