The truth would be that would be that the SPLC's backers manufactured the violence at Charlottesville, with the SPLC's complete complicity. It was organized by a former Occupy Wall Street organizer, hyped by CNN for weeks beforehand, and the counterprotesters were recruited and supplied by the usual, astroturfing non-profits. Charlottesville mayor, Mike Signer, who made a career of being a neo-liberal pawn, clearly put his puppetmasters' agenda over public safety by not canceling the event and not providing sufficient law enforcement. Charlottesville wasn't a "white nationalist rally," it was an SPLC fundraiser.

The murder didn't let them conflate Trump with white supremacy. Him stating that the white supremacists were fine people is what did that. Any other Predisent would have had no problem immediately condemning the Unite The Right rally.
