how soon is too soon to tell someone you’re dating that you have IBS?

Whatever option you choose, the right person will love you regardless. I'm in a different situation because both my partner and I are our toilet's kryptonite, but neither of us found out about the other until our bowels made that decision for us.

He spends 70hrs a week working with a ton of guys who have shift-induced IBS, so most of his time is spent in an environment where it's normal.

A month in, we were out walking a few minutes from my place, and he was lightly trying to tell me he wanted to go back. He had an episode and he was definitely extremely embarrassed because it took so long, and was so noisy. Gave him some Imodium so he didn't shit himself on his way home, and we lay down and listened to some music until he knew it was working. Chatting about it while looking back a few weeks ago, he said he knew I loved him then.

Fast forward to six months in, we were on a break during a disgusting heatwave, the room was boiling and right before hotel checkout time, his bowels start. I unplugged the hotel fan, brought it to the nearest outlet to the bathroom, and had to be seriously innovative to get it to point at him. I sat on the floor chatting to him, holding the fan in place. Not phased at all by the war zone in front of me.

I now sit in the bathroom and chat to him while he shits whenever I'm around and he's having a bit of an episode like it's the most normal thing in the world. I've also cleaned up for him before.

A fun little nugget about me - at four months, he was helping me wax an intimate area, and saw fecal leakage around the impaction I was struggling with at the time. He literally saw it happen. None of his poop situations have ever topped that.

Love conquers all.
