How do you stay self confident and avoid the trap of comparing yourself to others?

I consider myself a pretty self confident person; note that this is something that I have had to actively work on and still do. I still compare myself to other people all the time though, but not in a bad way, and I think that's what makes a huge difference. For example, I try not to be jealous of people who I view as better than me and instead turn it into admiration. And I like to consider what it is about them that I admire, and depending on whatever it is I will come up with areas I can work on to be more like them.

I think true confidence, for me, acts like a positive feedback loop. I am confident in myself that I can compare myself to others in a healthy way that in turn feeds my confidence even more. There is nothing bad about comparing yourself to others, in fact I think it is often necessary to stay self-aware and assess your own self criticially, but it's just how you go about it that makes a huge difference.
