How to tell if its a boxing gym or a "boxing fitness" gym?

If they emphasize aquabags, it’s a “boxing inspired” spot and not what you’re looking for.

There’s also what I’d consider hybrid spots that offer small class sizes and teach proper form, etc. while also catering to more of a white collar crowd. That said, if you let the trainer know your goal, they can augment the training regimen for you.

That said, almost all gyms offer trial classes as long as you’re a resident of that state/city, so just drop in and check it out.

Assuming the NJ in your name also indicates where you’re from, you could also go the route of going to an open gym/ classic gym like Gleason’s. You’d pay a rate to use the gym, but hire a trainer individually (they all have different rates). A friend of mine also teaches classes but I’m not sure what gym he’s at.
