I think it's odd that many gamers approach the study of video games from a split POV. They typically talk about games separately from the story.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing but I think it's strange when a game has such an overreaching story that deeply contextulizes all the gameplay and it's simply explained as "the story was OK but the game was awesome."
I feel like these two elements of games are generally discussed this way because the games themselves don't provide a very cohesive way of telling their story.
I think Celeste however, does. In this video, I breakdown the ways in which I believe Celeste breaks the mold when telling its story and how I think most narrative driven hands should approach their design.
