It depends when you were taught.

Since 2014 languages have been a compulsory part of the curriculum throughout Key Stage 2 (now starting in Year 3). Historically language teaching began at the start of Key Stage 3.

In Key Stage 2 any ancient or modern language can be taught, while in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 usually French, German, or Spanish are taught. Some schools in Key Stage 4 offer ancient languages.
