How/ when and why did you get diagnosed

Although I always had problems with my memory i didn’t consider it could be adhd until my son was diagnosed with it.

My diagnosis was based on my history - the doctor wanted to discuss all the areas where I was having trouble functioning (memory, concentration, organization etc). I also have a university degree and we discussed how I was able to do that with adhd. The doctor did a few simple memory tests but there was no formal testing.

For me school was much easier than the work world. I work in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. My brain has trouble handling a lot of information coming in at once from different sources and when you add in interruptions, I just don’t retain information like a normal person would. School was easier because you can hyper focus. There are no interruptions.

My experience with diagnosis was very positive. I felt like the doctor listened and asked the right questions and believed my answers. Hope your doctor is as thoughtful and kind as the doctor who diagnosed me.
