How would you feel if your 14 year old son said he made a rap song that got 50 million views on YouTube, and that he wants to drop out of school for music (assuming he is legally able to)?

Okay well first of all fuck school in America in general. There’s an 80% chance my hypothetical child is getting an unsatisfactory education already. If my child’s song got 50m views, and his/her account was monetized that’d be equal to about $50k MAX. So of course we’d have to put that into a trust available upon their 18th or 21st birthday. As a music video director I’ve seen so many musicians get one hit and never get any more attention EVER. So I’d probably look into a music school, music conservatory, or private lessons, or a trade school for music production. The thing is you may have the skills to make one fire song, but the tools you’ll learn from a trade school or studying classical music will give you tools to use for the rest of your life.
