Bring the hate, or love. DAMN. is very personal to me. I had a really hard time ranking these and honestly only my top 3 would stay the same while moving everything else around. I don’t hate any tracks at all, so those towards the bottom don’t mean I dislike them whatsoever.
Having had this album playing just about every day since release, I’ve attached feelings and emotions to them just like you would any other record. Certain songs are very important and mean different things to me compared to others. Depends on what headspace I’m in and the emotions I want to feel.
To give you an example, I really did not like GOD. upon my first couple listens. Met a girl who loved it and upon talking she definitely changed my opinion. Also, listen to that song baked with a good sound system and tell me it isn’t amazing. BLOOD. is only at the bottom since it’s an intro track, but it should be placed right alongside DNA. as they complement each other well and I don’t listen to one without the other. And tbh, ELEMENT. is my least played although I really do love the hook and music video.
What a great, great, GREAT album. I think you truly have to live with this one to get full appreciation. It takes time to associate your own personal feelings and experiences with the tracklist, but when you do it creates a very personal bond.
