How would you rate MGSV now?

This game hurt because of what it could have been had development not been derailed. I was disappointed because of where it seemed like it was going in Ground Zeroes.

I probably would have been ok, if it hadn't been for Ground Zeroes. To me, the finale of ground zeroes is the pinnacle of the series as far as narrative. It was every bit as emotionally powerful as Metal Gear Solid, but finally the series seemed to be shedding the trappings of a 90s anime. Not that 90s anime is bad, but for once it seemed like it was elevated to level of a really good hollywood film, in both visuals AND content. Something Kojima always seemed to be striving for.

Watching everything Big Boss built crumble around him because of his own hubris, seeing Paz and chico brutally murdered in front of him and all of it go down in flames was amazingly intense. I thought surely The Phantom Pain would deliver more of this. Not only will we see battles of that scale, but we'll get to be IN them. I thought the game would more seriously explore the themes of child soldiers, torture, and the real horrors of war that the trailers teased and are unavoidable when you are in as thick a quagmire as Big Boss was bound to end up.

I also thought it would be about the beginning of his war with Zero, where you lead the fight against global control by creating an uncontrollable (but secret) shit-storm of violence against higher powers. Chief of which would be the delightfully slimy skullface who seemed like he would go to any lengths to drive home Zero's plan and ultimately you would have to sell your soul to stop him all in the name of revenge for Paz and to prevent perversion of The Boss's legacy, this irony being the coupe de gras of the entire series finale.

But ultimately nothing in TPP ever matched that sequence at the end of Ground Zeroes. It was good, but it seemed like it was going to be mind blowing, and I just think it's a damn shame that instead we got an old man whining about parasites and hamburgers, and there were zombies again for some reason, and most of what actually happened was dumb and uninspired.

Also, to quote a bit from Patton Oswalt: Konami: "Hey do you guys like Liquid Snake?!"
Fan: "Oh yeah man, he's the classic british bad guy, talking smooth one minute and knocking your fuckin head off the next." Konami: "Yeah! Now you get to see him as a little kid!" Fan: "..."
