i know many muslims that don’t eat only halal food, don’t pray 5 times a day, and have friends from a wide variety of religions. they are still very serious about their religion and often attend prayers only on friday. but like christians, jews, or people of any religion, there are people who do not follow every rule ‘by the book,’ especially those born in western countries or raised around fewer members of their religions.

just an fyi because of the dozens of muslims i am close with, only 1 or 2 follow your list with any closensss. writers writing about more ‘westernized’ (‘secular?’ i’m not sure the appropriate term, if someone has one, please correct me) muslims may want to have a chat with one of them for character realism.
