How was your diagnosis process?

I don't get diagnoses unless I ask for one because it's required. For example I went on unemployment insurance for a short time and needed a diagnoses. So my psychiatrist just wrote "schizoaffective, adhd, major depression." Just kind of put down what he thought I might match the criteria for. He said he had never really given it much thought, he just doled out the medication based on what I said I was feeling.

He showed me what he actually has in the health system that is shared between my psychologist and family doctor. The diagnosis just said something like "Periodic episodes of psychosis and significant mood cycles. Obsessive and compulsive tendencies. Difficulties with focusing and motivation". Something like that.

Every doctor is different, some like my team of doctors really don't care about diagnoses. Some doctors thinks a proper diagnosis is crucial and will order multiple tests to try and figure it out. Some doctors are moderate and are okay with diagnosing you after one appointment.
