How has your interest in true crime impacted your life directly?

I notice discarded trash bags more and am more suspicious of strangers, but other than that, not much. I am far more scared of cancer and other drivers on the road than I am of the possibility of getting randomly murdered.

I am very interested in local criminal history and have been slowly building on a map of murders in Miami, and there are some cases that stick out in my mind enough that I'm constantly reminded of them whenever I am in the area where it happened. Just an, "Oh, this is the intersection where __ was killed". I recently learned that the intersection where I bike to get my bubble tea is also the site of a car bombing that occurred in the 80s (the victim was slated to testify against some pretty powerful drug dealers). The parking garage of the Miami International Airport was the site of at least one murder, so it creeps me out a bit if I'm there at night, even though I know the area is generally quite safe.
