How was your weekend? (Official Thread): Experiences, rants, and photos from this past week's work and weddings... - November 01, 2015

Also long time lurker, shot my first wedding in ages (1 in 2013 and many on film in the 90's). I genuinely missing shooting weddings and have a half dozen weddings booked for 2016 already.

Had a dear friend's mother getting married and heard they were doing a Halloween themed wedding, hadn't booked a real photographer yet (but they had an Uncle Bob!). Bride hired me on the recommendation of her daughter without seeing my photos, and didn't let Bobbie know that the job had been filled.

Anyway, I jumped at the chance with a little less than 3 weeks notice. Thankfully the bride (friend's mother) listened to my scheduling advice to get in group shots and formals and such. Lots of great family members in costumes on both sides, Frankenstein's Monster and the Bride of Frankenstein, no bridezilla/mamazillas thankfully!

Even with it being a sunny day on Saturday, the chapel was incredibly dark and had Uncle Bob severely cramping my style the entire time. Arrived in the same costume as me no less, le sigh. Bob was my fault for not making it more clear on the limited prep time to the Bride that that kind of thing should be discouraged.

Anyway, got in one solid shot when Bobbie was busy bumming a ride to the reception from someone else (no joke). Tons of other wonderful shots throughout the day, but this one I'm particularly happy with (mainly just for the breathing room). https://instagram.com/p/9h3SHVx6NX/ nothing fancy, just a single bare speedlight off camera left. Got that shot and then the bride and groom to the reception 30 minutes ahead of schedule.

TL;DR - first wedding in a long time, didn't properly manage Uncle Bob prior to wedding and paid for it, but still got solid shots and had a fun.
