I was getting a cavity drilled out and none of the numbing cream was effective. He would put the ointment in and leave me for a couple minutes. I wasn't numb so he would repeat. He did this 3 times and then decided that I should be numb enough but I wasn't numb at all. He started and I was in a lot of pain so I told him to stop and I started panicking that none of the numbing cream was working. He ended up giving me a numbing shot in the roof of my mouth which was super painful. I still had A LOT of anxiety about the shot not working either. I couldn't tell if the numbing shot worked because I started having a panic attack. He drilled out the cavity while I was crying and let me go. I went home crying and my SO's mother (i had lived with her at the time) was furious because the dentist didn't give me time to calm down before proceeding. He was probably already impatient because the numbing cream wasn't working. She wanted to march down there and complain but I begged her not to. I haven't been back to the dentist since.
